Programs Department

Educational programming has been a primary mission of the Blackhawk Museum since opening in 1988. All donations to the Children’s Education & Transportation Fund, a non-profit 501 ( c ) 3 organization, have been matched to $25,000 annually by the Patricia R. Behring Foundation. This fund provides school groups with funding for transportation & admission costs while visiting the Blackhawk Museum.

Over 200,000 students have visited the Museum during the last 30 years with tours targeting every grade level. We invite all school groups, grades Kindergarten through High School, to experience the Blackhawk Museum. For more information, please contact the Programs Department at

School/Youth Tours

The Blackhawk Museum Programs Department schedules School/Youth Group tours. These tours provide a unique opportunity for students of all ages. The Auto, Spirit of the Old West, Art of Africa, Into China and World of Nature Galleries allow students to experience and explore amazing educational, artistic, cultural, historical artifacts in one place. These galleries also support the California State Content Standards for History, Social Science, English/Language Arts and Fine Arts. Education & Transportation Program

Since 1991, our Children’s Education & Transportation Fund has reimbursed schools and youth groups for the cost of bus transportation so that all children are able to visit the Blackhawk Museum. During this time, more than 200,000 children have visited the Museum through our funded Education & Transportation Program.

The Blackhawk Museum Education & Transportation Fund is available to all youth in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties as well as underserved and target schools in the greater San Francisco Bay Area and the Central Valley area. Please contact for further information.
