Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Exhibit A Tribute to the 56-Year History of this Premier Concours

Blackhawk has enjoyed a close relationship with the Concours for more than 25 years, and since 1988 the Blackhawk Museum has become a must-see for aficionados going to Pebble Beach each August.

Poster created by Eldon Dedini, best know for his cartoon art that appeared in Esquire magazine, New Yorker, and Playboy, for the Concours' 40th anniversary in 1990, yellow ribbon for 1999 Tour d'Elegance participant, and Class trophy were some of the objects on exhibition.
Blackhawk's tribute explores the Concours' 56-year evolution from its start as a car show held during a road race in the Del Monte Forest in 1950, to its position of greatness by which all other concours are judged.
In the 1960's the Concours began losing both entrants and spectators; the early 1970's became a critical turning point for Pebble Beach.
In 1972 a fresh spirit began skillfully guiding the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance toward stable growth and international prominence.

The Lorin Tryon Trophy, first presented in 1999, is represented by this Lalique crystal nude, "Chrysis," and recognizes longtime contributors to the Concours.
The Museum's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Gallery allows visitors an in-depth look at the event's 56-year evolution.
Framed Concours posters dating from 1950 through 2003 are accompanied by a synopsis of each year's highlights; and a ten-year overview divided each decade of posters.

The Pebble Beach Concours' change and development is reflected in the posters' graphic styles, and the trend toward promoting each year's featured marque car becomes apparent in the poster art of the early 1980s, and remains a Pebble Beach Concours signature to this day.
