Louis Chiron's Bugatti Type 35B is closely followed by Achille Varzi in the P2 Alfa Romeo going through Village Campofelice di Roccella during theTarga Florio race, May 4, 1930. Despite catching fire while refueling in full flight, Varzi drove on fiercely with flames licking around his neck while his mechanic fought them with a seat cushion. He finally won in record time beating Chiron by just under 2 minutes, in a race which lasted nearly seven hours.
